In this feature-packed feature film – which soon became the biggest hit in cinematic history when it came out – paraplegic former Marine Jake Sally transfers the consciousness on a mission to Pandora to an “avatar” to mix with the locals. This is a new world, boats.
The avatars created by mixing the boat DNA with humans are, at first glance, completely identical to the members of the local tribe.
Blue skin with white spots, long tail, two large rounded ears, cat nose … A priori, it is impossible to distinguish between an avatar and a real boat.
And yet … as we see them a little closer, there really is a way to distinguish them from each other.
Indeed, unlike boats, avatars have eyebrows above the eyes. But above all, they all have four fingers on each hand, unlike human avatars, which retain five.
Moreover, during the film’s final fight against humans, we see Neithir holding a handprint with five fingers on his chest. Thus, we can conclude that it was Jake Salim who painted this combat paint for him using the hand of an avatar.
