After a long journey to the silver screen, Top Gun: Maverick it has finally arrived and is making a serious noise. The film was a box office success (even though he didn’t get a release in China ), same giving Tom Cruise the best opening weekend ever . Critics also praised the aerial sequences. and Cruise’s performance, among others. With all of this in mind, some may be surprised to learn that the actor initially didn’t want to do the sequel. Now director Joseph Kosinski has revealed his epic tone for it.
Joseph Kosinski seems to have had a strong desire to revive the character of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and eventually got Jerry Bruckheimer. The veteran producer was happy with Kosinski’s idea but, of course, he had to do the franchise. As explained by the director Vulture They set up a meeting with him, though Kosinski only realized closer to the conversation that the actor had no interest in returning to the franchise:

And, of course, there’s the poignant reunion between Maverick and Iceman, performed by the return of Val Kilmer. In short, Joseph Kosinski (and his numerous collaborators, of course) deserve a lot of gratitude from best gun Fans. Not only have they made a sequel that honors the original film, but they’ve also created a film that is now a perfect way to kick off the successful summer season. So let it be a lesson, folks. When looking for something you are passionate about, don’t be put off by obstacles, even if one of them is Tom Cruise.
