Benedict Cumberbatch says he’s coming in a Marvel film in 2024

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Doctor Strange in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), said in an interview this week that he should appear in a new production of the franchise as early as 2024.

Speaking with Nick Hackworth about the JW3 Speaker Series, the actor opened up about his future plans, saying he has “a couple of Marvel projects lined up for next year.”

However, Cumberbatch did not elaborate on whether the production in question will be released or only produced in 2024.

With no Doctor Strange solo movie scheduled for next year, the actor was only expected to return in Avengers: Kang Dynasty, which has been delayed to 2026.

The most recent Marvel movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch is the sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film earned more than US$950 million (approximately R$4.6 billion) at the box office.

Both it and its predecessor – 2016’s Doctor Strange – are available on the Disney+ streaming platform.

Another postponement?

Another Marvel movie – this one outside the MCU – with a high likelihood of its release being delayed is Spider-Verse 3.

The sequel to Spider-Man Through the Spider-Verse was originally promised for early 2024.

However, in practice, Spider-Verse 3 can hit the big screen after 2024. At least, that’s what the people involved in the film’s production signal.

The producers of the trilogy, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, have made it clear that the goal of the team is to do a good job, no matter how long it takes.

They also said they will not commit to a date that does not fit this proposal.

An animator working on Spider-Verse 3 has said there’s no way the sequel can meet Sony’s announced deadline.
