Learn how to join Threads, Instagram’s new social network that rivals Twitter

Threads emerges after recent controversy involving Twitter and emerges to rival billionaire Elon Musk’s social network

On Wednesday evening (5), Instagram launched its new social network called Threads, which is considered a competitor to Twitter. Meta, Mark Zuckerberg’s company that owns Instagram and Facebook, anticipated the launch, scheduled for Thursday morning (6).

Mark Zuckerberg posted on his account on the platform: “Let’s go. Welcome to Threads”, and the post quickly amassed thousands of “likes”.

On the App Store, the app is described as “the text version of the social network Instagram”, which, together with the images, gives the impression of resembling Twitter. The description of the app states: “Threads are where communities come together to discuss everything from topics we care about today to topics that will trend tomorrow.”

The social network is now available for iOS and Android devices and users can also register through the website. Threads is directly connected to Instagram.

Upon registration, users have the option to import their profile information and existing followers into the photo and video application.

Network users can share single and sequential messages, using multimedia resources, as well as on the Elon Musk platform. Furthermore, it is possible to interact with other users, commenting and sharing the publications.

One of the distinguishing features of Threads is the character limit, which is 500, compared to the 280 allowed on Twitter.

Threads comes after recent controversies involving Twitter. Last Saturday, Elon Musk, owner of the blue bird network, announced new rules for using the platform. According to the billionaire, existing unverified accounts will be able to read up to 600 tweets a day. Unverified accounts of new users will only be able to view 300 tweets per day.

Verified accounts will be able to access up to 6,000 tweets per day. The announcement was made with a post on the social network. According to Musk, the “temporary” measure was taken to “cope with extreme levels of data mining and system manipulation.”
