The Chamber approves the text of the tax reform in the 2nd round

ROME, JUL 07 – The Chamber of Deputies approved earlier this Friday (7) the Proposal for a Constitutional Amendment (PEC) of the tax reform, when the head of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP), criticized the “radicalism” by former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

With 382 votes in favor and 118 against, the plenary of the Chamber approved, at 2 in the morning (local time), the reform of the tax model born in the 1960s and which had been under discussion for 30 years.

The PEC establishes the Goods and Services Levy, which will replace federal taxes such as PIS and COFINS, and the Goods and Services Tax, which will replace the state ICMS tax.

Former President Bolsonaro, defeated in last year’s elections by Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva (PT), criticized the project, which was voted for by 20 PL deputies, whose bench has 99 MPs.

In a plenary speech, the Speaker of the Chamber criticized “political radicalism”. “People are tired of this, the elections have already taken place. My candidate, the one I supported in the elections, has lost the presidential elections (2022). Let’s leave the polls aside, let’s turn our gaze to the Brazilian people”, He said said.

According to Lira, “tax reform will not be anyone’s political toy. Tax reform is the state’s agenda”. .
