After the Vietnamese organ was banned, Warners spoke out. In an interview with Variety, a spokesperson for the company said the scene is not intended to be anything but to depict the character’s imaginary journey.

The map in Barbie Land is a pencil drawing for children. The doodles depict Barbie’s imaginary journey from Barbie Land to the “real world”. She wasn’t intending to make any kind of statement.

This isn’t the first time Vietnam has blocked launches over land claims. Movies, Crazy Rich (2018), abominablel (2019) e unexplored (2022) stopped showing in theaters across the country for the same reason. In 2021, Netflix removed the spy film pine gap from the country.

Barbie, which premieres July 20, tells the story of the young doll who lives in Barbieland, where everything is perfect. When she enters an existential crisis, the protagonist faces an adventure in the real world of humans.
