Directed by Steven Spielberg, Jurassic Park – Dinosaur Park(1993) featured a pair of paleontologists, Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill). For the actress, the age difference between the actors is “inappropriate.”
In an interview with The Times, dern recalled his role in the first film in the franchise. During filming, the actress was only 23 years old, while Neill is 20 years older. However, at the time, the age difference did not bother, but now it seems strange to the artist.
“Which at the time was a completely appropriate age gap for a leading man! It never occurred to me until I opened a magazine and there was an article… Well, it felt completely appropriate to fall in love with Sam Neill. And it was only now, when we came back in a time of cultural awareness about patriarchy, that I was like, ‘Wow! Aren’t we the same age?’ […] Our age difference in Jurassic Park was completely inappropriate,” said dern.
Now she and Neill revisit their respective roles in the new franchise film, Jurassic World: Dominion (2022).
