DC begins new Knight Terrors saga with Batman neutralized by his own friend, which could complicate things for the Justice League
The new DC Comics horror saga is starting, and already in the first chapters we see that the heroes will have extra difficulty to defeat the great villain of this event, mainly because Batman has been neutralized by one of the “good guys”. The Man-Bat, who tends to cope better with threats such as the one posed by the mysterious Insomnia, seems to be initially out of the picture.
Spoiler alert for Knight Terrors: First Blood #1 and Knight Terrors: Batman #1!
Knight Terrors: First Blood #1 reveals that Insomnia is responsible for the chaos affecting the entire DC Universe. Most people fall into a deep, unnatural sleep, unable to wake up. Only a few characters were unaffected for various reasons, including Deadman, who was working alongside Batman at Arkham Tower when it all came to a head.
When the Dark Knight becomes the villain’s target, Deadman, who had already been warned by Batman himself not to take over his body, is forced to do it again. Instinctively, the phantom hero “enters” inside Bruce Wayne to protect you from the dangerous astral forces unleashed by Insomnia.

This, in itself, would already leave Batman out of the picture, but there is an even more delicate reason, which has neutralized him for quite some time in this affair. To Batman. Knight Terrors: Batman #1we see that, as part of his training for every imaginable situation, Bruce Wayne has discovered a way to keep his mind active and aware even when attacked on a psychic level.
Even lost in his nightmares, Batman is aware of who he is and what’s going on. In theory, he should be able to break out of the trance and regain control of his body. But because Deadman is occupying his body, Batman can’t truly regain control of himself.
How does Knight Terrors suggest Batman’s mental damage is increased?
Knight Terrors it’s just getting started and obviously Batman has to come back at some point in the storyline. But at what price? DC Comics has picked up on how Wayne’s mind has become unstable lately, mainly because he is the hero who most “transits” through the evil brains of serial killers, genocides, maniacs, and all manner of criminals.

While Knight Terror: Batman highlights how Bruce Wayne is already ready to face the kind of threats and horrors that await him in his mind, there can be a limit. The recent return of his second personality highlights that Batman is not as mentally stable as he pretends to be.
We wait to see what the storyline has in store for Batman, however the stories have suggested, thus far, that the damage to the mind of Batman, who is already wracked by the trauma of his parents’ deaths as a child, could reach a dangerous level.
