It’s time to say goodbye (almost) for Greg and Elliott, and this is where it all begins. In two days, the iconic couple of the cooking series will say “I do” in front of the entire Auguste Armand Institute, during a special episode that will end their three-year love story with an apotheosis and signal their departure. Mikaël Mittelstadt and Nicolas Anselmo attended the very first episode.
Was it a very nice conclusion and this long-awaited wedding was planned after Greg’s “departure” that surprised everyone on TF1 at the end of last year? As for Eliot and Hortense, will they be able to reconcile in time for the announced double marriage to actually be celebrated?
Before he discovers Greliot’s wedding on screen this Friday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m., This Is Where It All Begins, Michael Mittelstadt entrusts his return to the series for this latest intrigue as a gift. fans, about the symbolism that this marriage represents and what awaits us in the final three episodes of this ark.
AlloCiné: When You went here everything started at the end of last yearDid you know it was scheduled to return this summer for Greg and Elliott’s wedding?
Michael Mittelstadt : It was mentioned, but when I played Greg going to Tokyo, for me it was really my departure. The authors did not write the departure because they knew that I would return after six months.
At a small party at the end of filming, it was mentioned to a few of the writers, and we discussed the possibility of me coming back to flesh out the ending and climax of Greg and Elliott’s story. That was about it, but to be honest, when I finished filming in November, in my head, it was over, it was the last clap.
For you, this marriage was the perfect end to this three-year love affair between the two characters?
completely. Symbolically, it’s great, it’s the apotheosis of Greg’s path, in terms of identity, acceptance of his father, his parents. There was no better way to close their stories for both of them. And then there are cool weddings, they end well, they are happy, they are joyful.
A gay wedding at 18:30 on TF1 is a powerful symbol. Are you proud of this plot and this message?
Of course, even if Nicolas and I told each other the other day that we somehow forgot that it was a gay wedding at 18:30 on TF1. It’s so obvious to us that these two characters love each other that we kind of forget it. But of course it’s very nice to show it. However, I think that while there will be a gay marriage on TF1, it’s primarily a bond between two characters who want to seal their intertwined fates so they can fly away.
Were you surprised by the idea of the screenwriters to turn this marriage into a double marriage? Or on the contrary, you had the feeling that the wedding was very expected and you had to have a surprise?
Two things struck me while reading: the kilt (laughs) and the double marriage. True, to conduct a slightly original story, we have to bring something new. Otherwise, the character returns, everything is fine and not interesting. Otherwise, we have to imagine new conflicts between Greg and Elliot, and we’ve had quite a few so far (laughs).
The authors wanted to play a bold card and try a new concept, that’s great. And that allowed us to shoot with Katrin Davydzenka and Marvin Pellegrino, who are great. I had a lot of laughs with Marvin on that arch.
This last arch marks your departure, but also that of Nicolas Anselmo. Did the two of you consult when you decided to turn the page on Where It All Begins and fly off to other adventures?
We both independently expressed our desire to move. I announced a little earlier than him, so I left the series at the end of last year. But it crossed Nicholas’s mind as well, and he wanted to follow soon. Except that, narratively, it was complicated by the stories of the diplomas.
So we thought it would be more obvious if Nicholas took his first break in a few weeks, when Elliot went to see Greg in Japan, that he came back, that there was a train wreck, and that Greg came back for their last script. . So we didn’t really consult each other, but we were happy to go.

How did it feel to be back on set after a six-month absence?
It was scary because I felt like I hadn’t left. It was very strange, even if we were all happy to see each other again. In terms of rhythm, automatisms, nothing has changed. It feels a bit like home after this series. There’s even a technician who was working on the shoot when I was still there in October, then took a six-month break and came back when I came back. So he didn’t know I left (laughs). It was quite funny.
On the Thursday, July 13 episode, Greg and Mehdi join forces to reconcile Elliot and Hortense. Will they make it?
They will go for broke. They take matters into their own hands because they know both of them very well. They want this positive event, a symbol of joy, to be realized.
At the same time, Greg makes a decision with serious consequences: he gives up Japan for Elliot. Was it important for you to understand that Eliot is somewhat hidden behind his own desires, even those of Benoit DeLobel?
absolutely. And behind the fact that he gives up Tokyo for Elliot’s love, I think there are also Greg’s own desires. When his father asks him what he really wants, he replies, “I want Elliot to actually be happy.”
Despite his journey since the beginning of the series, he may not be able to convey it like this yet, but his desire is truly in this other person’s happiness. And he no longer cares about his father or his own pleasure. This is important because it is understood thanks to Eliot and thanks to this story in Japan. We are still in an initiative search that is being completed. After that they will open an ashram in India (laughs).
After all, is this proof of Greg’s ultimate love for Elliott?
completely. We are in a very difficult situation there.
