Bahia were eliminated on Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil. After another 1-1 draw against Grêmio, Esquadrão de Aço lost 4-3 on penalties at the Arena do Grêmio, in Porto Alegre (RS), and said goodbye to the knockout stage. After the final whistle, defender Kanu praised the team’s posture and called for the support of the Bahian crowd to ensure a “safe year” for the club.
“The cup [do Brasil] it was very good for us. We got knocked out today but I’m sure the fans saw a team with soul, delivery and that’s the message we need to get across. We were close to making history, but let’s not lower our heads, we still have a long season ahead, together with our fans, as they are doing at home, filling all the games. Let’s continue together, I’m sure we will have a very secure year,” he said.
“Now the focus is only on the Brazilian national teams and, I repeat, for what we are doing and developing, I’m sure we will have a very safe year. We will recover, we have everything to improve and have a good season. We will play in our stadium and it will make a difference. I’m sure it will be fundamental against Corinthians. Always together,” added the player.
With the elimination, Bahia maintains a negative record in the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil. The Northeastern team has reached this stage of the tournament eight times, being eliminated in all of them. With that, he never made it through this part of the competition.
Now, Esquadrão de Aço turns its attention to the Brazilian league. For the 15th round, the team coached by Renato Paiva will visit Athletico-PR, next Sunday at 18:30 (Brasilia time), at the Ligga Arena, in Curitiba (PR).
