Rock Day: The musical genre is the 3rd most listened to in Brazil

This Thursday (13th) is World Rock Day in Brazil and, after years of crisis, style seems to be finding space again in Brazilian playlists. According to data from Spotify, the most used music stream in the country, the music genre has leapt in popularity, rising from 16th place in 2022 to 3rd in 2023.

In the international rock and roll market, in addition to the Artic Monkeys, Linkin Park, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd and Imagine Dragons are also among the favorites.

Among the most listened to songs, Artic again takes the first place with I want to be yours. The sound is followed by Yellowby Coldplay — again this year the band was in Brazil and played 11 shows, all sold out.

In the national rock chart, despite the good positions of Skank and Titãs, Charlie Brown Jr. still dominates the top. The classification of Brazilian bands is as follows:

It is worth mentioning that in 2022 Charlie Brown Jr. was also in the leading position. The out-of-business band is considered one of Spotify’s most popular ‘retirees’, with time-honored hits that are perpetuated to this day in Brazilian headphones and stereos.

Closed in 2013 after the death of the singer Chorão, Charlie Brown Jr. has the album “Imunidade Musical” (2005) as the second most listened to rock in the country. Among the most played rock songs, Fighting Days Glory Days occupies the third position.

Spotify currently has around 6 million rock playlists created by Brazilian users. According to the platform, the music genre’s core audience ranges from 18 to 44 years old.
