The creator of Westworld confirms that the main character is dead, explains the return of season 4, and also reveals the return of the star

Fans can finally look forward to the highly anticipated fourth season of The western world It will air later this month on HBO, more than two years after the end of the third season of the dystopian western series. After the third season finale, fans were unsure of Evan Rachel Wood’s Dolores fate. Now we finally have confirmation that death is permanent thanks to co-creator Lisa Joy, but Wood will return as another character alongside James Marsden.

During her appearance at the ATX festival with the cast this weekend, co-creator Lisa Joy left many suggestions for the upcoming season of The western world. Through Termspoke about the new storylines and the aftermath of the Season 3 finale, as well as how Evan Rachel Wood and James Marsden will play in Season 4.

Evan Rachel Wood is back, but not as expected

The Season 3 finale saw Dolores sacrifice herself to give humans back their free will and, in turn, her memory and data were erased from her circuits, essentially killing her. It was therefore unknown if someone, like Caleb, would reboot her system and bring her back, but Lisa Joy confirmed that she was dead.

Joy explicitly resolved the character’s fate by saying “Dolores this is dead, “but they said they decided to bring Evan Rachel Wood back to life and” write a completely new character for her. “Wood explained how it all happened and that it had been in the works for some time:

She is a normal woman who lives in a big city and tries to make it as a writer. Nothing ever happens to him, really. I guess that’s all I can say … I was told Dolores was going to have a pretty tragic ending in Season 3, so I had some conversations with [co-creator] Jonathan [Nolan] and Lisa at the time about what it meant. They said, “Yeah, you’re going back this season and you’re going to look a lot like Evan Rachel Wood,” but it’s not me.

This new character is called Christina, who lives in a New York-style city with her roommate, played by History of the west sideIt’s Ariana De Bose. Said roommate may have feelings for Christina. Wood’s new character will also have plenty of quotes, including one that sounds a lot like fan favorite James Marsden.

James Marsden also returns

During season 2 of The western worldFans already knew that James Marsden’s Teddy would be missing before the end of the season. During a culminating scene in the penultimate episode of the season, Teddy killed himself in front of Dolores and it was heartbreaking to watch. However, in season four, Christina will go on a date with someone who is the spitting image of Marsden, bringing back memories of Dolores and Teddy’s whirlwind romance.

The actor, who would have surprised fans in the middle of the panel, talked about his return after so long and shared his excitement to be part of something that started for him almost a decade ago:

Sometimes you have to leave to return. We learn to speak cryptically in this program. It’s been 7 years on our show and yes it’s an amazing thing to be a part of and see where the story goes. From the start, I had no idea where this was going to lead us, but I’m happy to see it now.

Considering how Teddy came out, James Marsden is unlikely to bring this character back. As with Evan Rachel Wood, it looks like he’ll be playing a completely different character. But at least his two characters will have another chance to love each other … if something goes wrong, anyway. With The western worldWe will never know

It will be interesting to see what happens in season 4 of The western world and exactly how Evan Rachel Wood and James Marsden will be brought back. We cross our fingers because they have more luck than the characters who preceded them, but it will be nice to see them again, whatever happens!
