One of Globo’s best current harvest programs, the River shipping it’s even more special on Saturday 7/15. Displayed immediately after newspaper todayin Rio de Janeiro, the fifth episode brings Daniella Dias AND Alexander Henderson meet the challenge of abseiling negatively. On the Macacu River, in Cachoeiras de Macacu, the pair of presenters will descend from a height of about 12 meters, but this time, in the company of four people with disabilities. “The beauty is that today we are not alone”, joked Dani, together with his travel companion. “There’s an adventurous crowd you’ll meet,” Alexandre announced.
Together with the guides Miguel Cordoba and Amarildo Chermont, Anderson Carlos da Silva, 49, Tatiane Cibele Felippe, 39, Luciene Francisco Lima de Araújo, 55, and Gabriela Coelho, all in wheelchairs, agreed to venture a adapted rappel. “It is an activity that consists of abseiling from a high point to a lower point, usually practiced on walls or any place that has a strong climb. We adapt abseiling so that everyone can participate. With PCDs, it is almost always done in bridges, since the fact of being negative (without contact with anything) facilitates the descent. And with some adaptations, it is not necessary to use any part of the body, except one hand (left or right) for the descent, “he explains Miguel , who uses a chair called Juliette for the return to the place of origin of disabled athletes: “It was born for hiking and mountaineering with PCDs. To handle it you need the help of at least 2 people, but more people the more the better, because it makes it easier to get around”.

With the proper safety equipment, our athletes started descending in pairs. Despite him being a rookie in the sport, Anderson Carlos da Silva has led the way. “It’s the first time I’ve rappelled, but I’ve done rafting, trekking, surfing. I’m looking for adventure. It’s also a way to surpass myself,” he said, who took the challenge to heart.
Gabriela Coelho, 30, who, in November 2022, started practicing adapted sports, such as hiking, abseiling, among others, spoke about the sensations they cause. “It is so broad, a mix of so many things that I can try to summarize in strength, courage, joy. It also has independence, even if relative, and an indescribable love for life in this environment surrounded by greenery, to the sound of nature”, she guaranteed.

Daniella was accompanied by Luciene Francisco when it was time to descend the bridge over the river, just as Alexandre had Tatiane Cibele as his companion on the descent. “When in my life, do I imagine hanging over the Macacu River, this spectacle of nature? And we are here, giving each other strength, giving each other courage,” commented Alexandre, with his partner. “I will leave here stronger, with more desire to get to know nature”, guaranteed Tatiane.
