Flamengo starts negotiations for the renewal of Gabigol’s contract

The screenplay of the documentary was written by Rafael Valente, with reporting by Cícero Mello. Among the stories of Galinho, in “Zico em familia” the former player will interrupt an episode in which, for a very short time, he hasn’t given up playing football. It was 1972, still 19, but already in the professional team of Flamengo.

“I waited for my father to come home and said, ‘Dad, I’m going to stop playing football. I don’t want to play football anymore. I don’t want to go through what my brothers went through,'” Zico said. The fact was due to the fact that he had not been called up for the Munich Olympics

But Zico’s frustration in 1972 was largely due to the episodes he had witnessed with his brothers Antunes and Edu, also in football. The Flamengo idol said that the first of him, in 1964, during his stay at Fluminense, was ignored in the selection games. This also happened to Edu, an American star in 1970, at the World Cup that year.

“They did a very big injustice with Edu, in my view, and with Antunes. Antunes stopped playing precisely because he saw the injustice with him and his colleagues. This is what happened to me when I didn’t selection,” Zico said.
