After exploring the pains of friendship at a barbecue, director Eric LaVine is interested in family conflicts, especially between parents and children. While watching a TV report about the Boomerang Generation, he came up with the idea of ​​”Going back to my mother’s house”.

Unlike the “Tangui generation” – a term taken from Etienne Chatillier’s iconic film of the same name – which refers to adults who stay with their parents until old age, the “boomerang generation” refers to adults who are forced to return to their parents, usually because of work. to lose.

In addition to this social phenomenon, Eric Laven is also inspired by his friend to imagine the character of 40-year-old Stephanie, who is forced to return to live with her mother Jacqueline. Together with his loyal collaborator, screenwriter Hector Cabello Rey, he invents the comic situations, unspeakable and other retribution caused by this forced coexistence.

Directed by the Josiane Balasko-Alexandra Lamy duo, Retour chez ma mère deals with contemporary issues with great precision and humor. This is undoubtedly the reason for its success in cinemas: the film released in 2016 attracted 2.2 million viewers in France.

Logically, the director is asked to create a sequel. Five years later, the latter finds his merry band for Un tour chez ma fille. This time, the mother goes with Carol, her eldest daughter, played by Matilda Seiner, who thus has the opportunity to further develop her character.

However, this sequel did not achieve the expected success. During his first week on the job, A visit to my daughter It has 146,389 entries, which is significantly lower than its predecessor (643,863 entries). After four weeks in theaters, the feature film has only 376,808 admissions.
