Scream veteran star Neve Campbell has turned down an invitation to return for the film’s sixth sequel. In an interview with Varietythe actress who has been in all the movies as Sidney Prescott explained that the offer that was made to her was not fair, as she was responsible for bringing much of the profits to the franchise.
“Unfortunately, I’m not doing the next ‘Scream’ movie. As a woman, I have had to work very hard in my career to establish my worth, especially when it comes to Panic. I felt that the offer that was presented to me did not match the value I brought to the franchise, “she explained.
Campbell made his debut on “Scream” in 1996 and starred in all four subsequent films, including the most recent, “Scream 5,” which also saw the return of Courteney Cox and David Arquette.
“It was a very difficult decision to move forward. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You have always been incredibly supportive. I am eternally grateful to you and what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.
As the tabloid noted, this isn’t the first time Campbell has mentioned the pay gap between her and other actresses in the horror franchise. The same happened in “Scream 3” when she cited the pay gap between her and Jamie Lee Curtis, known for “Halloween” movies.
“There’s always the promise of the backend. And then, of course, it’s drowned in advertising, costs and all the reasons why they say, “Oh, not really, we don’t make the amount of money we say we make on all the press, so no.” I don’t have to give it to you, unfortunately. “the actress said on another occasion in 2020.
“Scream 6” was announced in February of this year and will see the return of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillertt as directors. In addition to them, Jenna Ortega (of the new generation) also returns for the sequel, as does Cox.
“Scream 6” is expected to hit theaters on March 31, 2023.
