The Olympic medalist was leading the heat when he injured himself risking a float
Surfer Italo Ferreira will not participate in the WSL J-Bay stage. The Brazilian and Olympic medalist suffered a bad fall performing a maneuver during the heat against Ian Gentil, a Hawaiian surfer, son of Brazilians, in the repechage.
The competitor from Baía Formosa could not resist the pain and withdrew from the stage before the end of this Tuesday 18. Ian Gentil recovered and secured his place in the round of 16.
In the next stage, João Chianca, Filipe Toledo, Yago Dora and Gabriel Medina will represent Brazil.
Italo managed to complete two waves, obtaining a total score of 13.47 and leading the heat. However, due to his injury, he required the assistance of a jet ski to receive medical treatment outside the waters of Jeffreys Bay.
Ian Gentil added 14.70 points and advanced through the competition. Another Brazilian surfer in the repechage, Caio Ibelli, was eliminated after being beaten by South African Jordy Smith.
Unfortunately Italo ended badly on the return of this maneuver. Let’s hope it wasn’t anything serious.
Come on, Italy! We are with you. 🙏 #WSLBrazil pic.twitter.com/O5zQ2G9pQR
