A Globe was ordered to pay BRL 45 thousand in compensation for moral damages to the composer Valdemar de Jesus Almeida, known in the artistic world as Carlos Mendes. The decision, made last week, refers to the use of music I left Caiá My Sobrado in the opening of the soap opera born again.
Work originally aired in 1993, but lawsuit charges compensation for showing soap opera on streaming platform Global game from 2021.
In addition to the amount of BRL 45,000, Judge Mario Chiuvite Júnior provides interest of 1% per month, starting from the first undue disclosure of the telenovela Renascer in streaming until the undue use of the opening song ends. The decision can still be appealed.
Previously, the composer Valdemar de Jesus Almeida had already sued Globo for the misuse of the same song, when the telenovela born again was repeated in 2005 to Worth seeing again. That time, the perpetrator also won the action, which resulted in a payment of nearly R$126,000 in 2019.
OR Earth tried to contact Globe looking for a position, and so far there has been no response.
The soap opera born again should soon return to the broadcaster’s screens, but in remake format. The adaptation is expected to premiere in 2024.
