The Morocco defender will be the first to play in a World Cup wearing a hijab


Benzina is 25 years old and currently plays for Royal Army Football Club of Morocco




The selection of Morocco started against Germanyfor the first round of group H of the Women’s World Cup. In its first edition, Africans will go down in history, given that Nouhaila Benzina will be the first to play in a World Cup wearing the hijab, an Islamic garment.

“Nouhaila Benzina will make history at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023. The Moroccan star will be the first player to participate in the tournament wearing a hijab,” FIFA posted on its official Twitter account.

Benzina is 25 years old and currently plays for Royal Army Football Club of Morocco. Active in the main squad since 2018, the defender has already worn the country’s colors in the youth categories.

Morocco qualified for the World Cup after defeating Botswana in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

Present in group H, the Moroccan team is still with Colombia and South Korea, in addition to the Germans, favorites for the title.
