Barbenheimer is real! The films break US box office records

It was expected that the phenomenon “barbenheimer” would be a hit at the box office, and only pre-sale films have already impressed, mostly Barbie. In a much-anticipated simultaneous debut, the movie featuring the world’s most famous doll grossed $155 million in its first weekend, while Oppenheimer achieved US$80 million, establishing leadership and deputy leadership for the first time in history with revenues exceeding US$50 million.

And the success of the films doesn’t stop there. barbenheimer provided the fourth-highest-grossing weekend in history, second only to previews by Avengers: Finale, Avengers: Infinity War AND Star Wars The Force Awakens.

With all this prominence, there wasn’t much room for Mission: Impossible: Reckoning – Part 1. Production Starring Tom Cruise dropped 64% in its second weekend, grossing just $18.8 million Friday through Sunday.

With releases planned for the same day, fans of Barbie AND Oppenheimer blocked the expression kicking off a fierce competition between the two most anticipated films of the year.

With the Internet being the Internet, several memes have also taken over social networks, with one production “invading” the space of the other – even a trailer for the Barbie with Cillian Murphy, starring in Oppenheimerwas created (see here!)

The phenomenon suggested that both productions had more in common than it seemed, with the pink invasion of Barbie strengthening Oppenheimer and the long story of the father of the atomic bomb, which piqued the curiosity of those who focused only on the doll movie.
