Desenrola renegotiated BRL 500 million in debt within a week, Haddad says

The Desenrola program has completed a week of operation with 500 million reais of debts renegotiated and 2 million records erased, Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said on Monday.

The programme, launched with the aim of renegotiating household debts and eliminating the names on the defaulters’ registers, is in its first phase, which is not guaranteed by state resources.

Renegotiations are made directly between customers with a monthly income of up to 20,000 reais and banks, who receive a tax benefit as an incentive. There is no limit on the amount of debts.

Even in this first phase, debts of up to 100 reais will no longer cancel the names of the debtors, even if the debt still exists.

“The Desenrola Program, which was made for those who want to rehabilitate, completes a week with 2 million records canceled and half a billion in debts renegotiated,” said the minister on his social media.

In the second phase of the program, scheduled for September, debts of up to 5,000 reais of people with incomes of up to two minimum wages will be renegotiated. In this case, a guarantee with state resources will be offered.
