Borussia Dortmund announce the signing of midfielder Sabitzer, ex Bayern Munich

Borussia Dortmund announced the signing of midfielder Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich on Monday. The athlete has signed a contract valid until June 2027.

After going on loan to Manchester United, the 29-year-old Austrian returned to the Bavarians, but was listed as “negotiable” and was awaiting offers. With that, Borussia’s offer of around 19 million euros (roughly R$100 million) was enough to close the deal.

Sabitzer’s arrival at the German club was highly appreciated by sporting director Sebastian Kehl, who spoke about the characteristics of the new signing: “An experienced player who has played at the highest level for years. He fits exactly the profile we were looking for: a midfielder who will strengthen us in defense and attack. Marcel is physically strong. We are convinced that his personality will also become an important pillar of the team and will help us to be even more effective in big matches.”

The Austrian spoke about the project presented that motivated him to choose Borussia Dortmund: “I can’t wait to wear this shirt. The talks with the managers have been excellent and have shown me how ambitious the club wants to be in the coming years. I want to do my part to make sure we can achieve our goals.”

Acting for Bayern Munich and Leipzig, Marcel Sabitzer counts up to 246 games, 43 goals and 38 assists. For Manchester United, the midfielder played for one season, but suffered from injuries and only played 18 games, with three balls in the net. In the Austrian national team he collects 71 caps, having scored 14 times.
