The Godfather is 50 years old: This cult element of the Francis Ford Coppola saga was almost non-existent.

On its 50th anniversary, The Godfather has been published in an unpublished restored edition and through an interesting podcast. Opportunity to discover the little-known secrets of one of the greatest movie sagas. An offer you can not refuse.

Rediscover The Godfather trilogy through the saga collection edition.

“A man who does not spend time with family is not really a man.” On March 23, one of the monuments of the seventh art extinguishes the 50th candle. The Godfather was released in 1972, the first part of the trilogy to enter the history of cinema, which ended in 1990.

Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, this masterful adaptation of Mario Puzo’s novels takes us from 1901 to the 1980s to the Corleones, one of the largest families in the American Mafia.

Masterpieces performed by Marlon Brando, James Caan, Robert De Niro, Robert Duvall, John Casale, Talia Shire, Richard S. Castellano, Sophia Coppola or Andy Garcia, but primarily by Al Pacino in costumes by Michael Corleone, Anti. – A hero whose birth, coming, falling and desire for redemption follow all three films.

“The famous godmother’s music almost never existed.”

In addition to its actors, its cult scenes and lines, the saga is highlighted by music that instantly immerses us in the movies as soon as we hear the first notes. A cult theme signed by Nino Rota and which would never shake the Adventures of Corleone, as revealed by Francis Ford Coppola in an unpublished interview on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the trilogy.

At the age of 29, while filming The Godfather, Francis Ford Coppola was far from unanimous in his choice of artistry or casting: “I was under a lot of pressure. Rumors circulated regularly about my dismissal or replacement. I was often afraid of being evicted“, Recalls the director, until he revealed that the music of the famous Godfather was almost erased at the last minute. Fortunately, Coppola offered a studio that he could not refuse!

Still until the end, during the editing, there was a great deal of disagreement about my choice of composer. The music of the famous Godfather was almost non-existent. I bluffed about it. I was told that deleting music was out of the question, I would be fired, and I would have to hire a new director to remove the music, but I was bluffing. They could behave as they wished, I had no power.
