Hustle Review by Adam Sandler A basketball scout in the Hustle trailer

Adam Sandler is a longtime basketball super fan, so it’s kind of surprising that passion has started to infiltrate his films recently. freshness uncut precious stones saw Sandman play a jeweler making one crazy bet after another in the NBA playoff semifinals as he tried to claim an expensive piece of jewelry from NBA star Kevin Garnett. And there’s even more bona fide basketball in the least stressful Febrile activitywhich remains entertaining, despite its stereotypical narrative.

Indeed, the script by Taylor Materne and Will Fetters diligently composes all the classic tropes of sports drama, from the most training montages to speeches about overcoming adversity. But Febrile activityStylistic flourishes add a nice touch to the recipe. Dan Deacon’s electronic soundtrack is creative and moves appropriately at various times, and both on the streets and in closed stadiums, the crisp shooting and clever editing captures basketball in all its beauty. Director Jeremiah Zagar ensures that the love of the game and its culture is evident everywhere, with cameo appearances by Philadelphia legends Julius’ Dr. J’Erving and Allen Iverson bring authenticity to the film.

Sandler easily switches between lightness and material with greater emotional weight.

Much of this would be moot if Sandler wasn’t as busy as he can sometimes be, but here he easily switches from lightness to heavier emotional material, like a man desperately trying not to add to his list of regrets. He is cleverly supported by NBA star Hernangómez, who is surprisingly good on the court as he realizes Cruz’s naive vulnerability when the focus shifts from basketball to family. Together, they form a partnership that is easy to foster.

There is a lot of work inside Febrile activityargues it’s a little awkward that the film decides to take a more predictable and crowd-pleasing route in almost any way, especially in a final act that momentarily teases something a little more subversive. This means that the end result doesn’t quite belong to the highest levels of sports movies like I believe Yes love and basketball, but NBA fans in particular will be thrilled with the heart and talent on display. As for Sandman and basketball, he is a perfect 2 on 2 on the court.
