Ridley Scott ‘didn’t think it was a good idea’ to direct Disney movies; understand

Ridley Scott revealed that he declined an invitation from disney to make fantasy films because “I didn’t think it was a good idea.” Director is known for works of science fiction such as Alien (1979) and blade runner (1982) and recalled, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter (via NME), when the studio offered him a particular film.

They wanted me to do a movie about a wizard and I don’t make movies about wizards. This was not a good idea.

Scott also explained how he selects the projects he intends to work on: “I feel like a kid on a playground with lots of toys and I’m like, ‘Oh, that looks cool and red and shiny. I’ll keep this one.’ The older I get, the more I look for productions that are ‘about’ something and not just entertainment. It has to have an effect on someone.”

In another interview, the director also criticized hero movies, stating that they are “fucking boring” and suggesting that his productions are better examples of the genre. “The best movies are character-driven, and we’ll get to the superheroes after that, if you will, because I’m going to kick ass. They are boring as fuck,” he told the deadline.

Scott added: “The scripts are not good at all. I think I’ve made three great scripted superhero movies. one would be Alien with Sigourney Weaver. One would be the damn gladiatorand the other would be with Harrison Ford… [Blade Runner].”

“These are superhero movies. So why don’t superhero movies have better stories? Sorry. I went off the rails, but the point is, they are mainly saved by special effects, and that’s getting boring for everyone who works in special effects, if you have the money,” he concluded.
