Match decided in extra time! And Spain in the semifinals of the Women’s Cup

Spain are still very much alive in their dream of winning the Women’s World Cup for the first time. At the end of this Thursday evening (8/10), at the Regional Stadium in Wellington, New Zealand, they beat the Netherlands in extra time, 2-1 (after a 1-1 draw in regulation time). The game had two characters. On the Dutch side, defender Van der Gragt. In normal time, he made one of the silliest penalties in history which was the elimination of the Netherlands. However, in addition, he scored a great goal, drawing a match that seemed unlikely. The other was Parallel. The 19-year-old entered the second half. He made the penalty move which Caldentey charged in and scored. And, in extra time, he scored the goal that made it 2-1.

Now Spain awaits the winner of the duel between Japan and Sweden, early this Friday (8/11), at 4.30am, at Eden Park, Aukland, New Zealand, to find out who will be their rival in the semifinal, next Tuesday.

Spain only put pressure in the first half

The first half was a Spanish massacre. After all, he added 62% of ball possession, 12 shots on goal against one (without the slightest danger) from the closed Netherlands. In addition there were two balls on the crossbar and a goal by González well disallowed for offside.

Van der Gragt villain and heroine of Holland

In the second half, the game was much more even, as the Netherlands also started looking for play and even had Beerensteyn concede a penalty, but it was disallowed by the VAR (Hernández’s contact with the Dutch forward was considered normal ). But at 34, the key move happened. Paralluelo, as soon as he enters, crosses from the right without danger. Defender Van der Gragt, Holland’s man of the match, childishly lowered his arm. He’s on the area line. Childish rigor, impossible. The VAR confirmed the penalty. Caldentey accused. The ball hit goalkeeper Domselaar’s right post before going on.

From there, it’s game over. Ivana Andrés took a free-kick from midfield which sent goalkeeper Domselaar crushed for a corner. Almost Spanish goal. Beerensteyn has had many chances for the Netherlands. But at 47 comes the draw. Van der Gragt played the striker, received a pass from the right, won in scoring speed and scored a great goal, tying the match. Extra time (not before der Gragt tries to clear a ball and almost hits it!).

Paralluelo takes Spain to the final

The extension was excellent. The Netherlands had three very clear chances through Beerensteyn. The last one, 5′ into the second half, was incredible, after crossing, in the small area, he kicked high. However, in the next minute, Parallulelo received a pass from the left, unmarked, entered the box, deceived Nouwen’s marking and used to score the goal that defined the Spanish table. Still, this 19-year-old girl is a delight.
