The long-awaited sequel to I Am Legend will take place several decades after its predecessor, which means that zombies (also known as vampires or Darkseekers) could look very different.
I Am Legend 2 is in the works, and audiences may find that the zombies, or Darkseekers as they’re called in the film, will look completely different than in Francis Lawrence’s first film. Director Akiva Goldsman has confirmed that the sequel will see the return of Will Smith as the protagonist Robert Neville, with actor Michael B. Jordan joining the cast in an undisclosed role. That’s certainly exciting news, but it was the other details Goldsman revealed that hinted at significant changes for the upcoming film.
In an interview with Deadline, Goldsman explained that I Am Legend 2 will follow the events of the alternate ending of I Am Legend. In this version, Robert Neville realized that the monsters weren’t as stupid as he thought, so he stops experimenting on them in his own laboratory and decides to leave New York City. I Am Legend 2 will pick up 20-30 years after these events and Goldsman said the plot was much closer to the novel the original film was based on. This indicates that when Will Smith returns for the sequel, the world will look different than audiences remember.
