These mischievous twins will make you mad in this Disney family movie

Just a year after the success of Pollyanna, Walt Disney’s Hayley Mills is at it again, this time with two roles in one! In La Fiancée de Papa, two twin girls raised separately (one by their father, one by their mother) decide to switch places to get to know the parent they never really knew. And the idea comes to them quite quickly to awaken the love between mother and father. Except the latter is about to get engaged and the two teenagers reconsider their plan…

Haley Mills x2

Twins, misunderstandings, goofs and jokes, slightly overworked parents… the Disney recipe for Disney Channel to inspire years and years of studio sitcoms is already there! Hayley Mills is excellent as Susan and Sharon (Carol in VF), each having a well-defined register without falling into caricature or revealing the cliché of twins who wear the same clothes and can’t be told apart.

In the purest Disney tradition, this family film is accompanied by three songs, all written by the Sherman brothers – who would later sign the Mary Poppins song and benefit the documentary on Disney + – and which certainly adds another layer to the long shots. Calibrated but unstoppable.

What will they like?

  • The heroines, first enemies, then allies to make amends with their parents, played very well by the lovely Hayley Mills.
  • Sometimes parents are separated but still love each other without admitting it. This movie proves that we can sometimes show them the way.
  • Songs, including the twist “Let’s get together”, lead several hours from the film!
  • There is no villain! The bride can be seen as the implied antagonist, but in reality only the character of their parents is the real opposition.

Things can bother them

  • Even if it’s a good reason to bring their parents together, the two sisters show themselves to be real henchmen to get rid of a fiancée who interferes with their plan.
  • It is mentioned that the mother hits her ex-husband in anger, we even have a demonstration of this. At the end of the film, his father tells him: “I give you permission to fight me whenever you want” !
  • Otherwise, the film is the quintessence of Disney know-how in terms of family films and all audiences. At most, the duration can be a brake for the youngest to fully appreciate the film (2 h. 09).
