The new Virtus costs R$ 138,790 in the top-of-the-range version and has incredible headlights, but is that enough to buy it?
The Volkswagen Virtus has brought good news in the 2024 lineup. We’ve driven the car around town and on the road and have a conclusion on that. The version evaluated was the top-of-the-range Highline, which costs R$ 138,790. That’s almost the price of the Jetta GLI when it came with 230hp, in 2020.
Only R $ 6,200 and three years separate the Virtus Highline 200 TSI from the Jetta GLI 350 TSI. The other difference between them is quite large – 102 horsepower. But, truth be told, this absurd price hike didn’t just happen to Volkswagen. It also appeared on Chevrolet, Toyota, Honda, Fiat and Hyundai, which also have B-category sedans.
All the novelties of Novo Virtus are visible here. See below for things we like and things that can be improved on Virtus Highline.

what we like
The 2024 Virtus has become visually more sophisticated, mainly due to the headlights. The new LED lights have increased the illumination range by 130 meters in front.
The 1.0-litre turbocharged engine (200 TSI) was retained in the Highline version. It offers an impressive balance between performance and fuel efficiency. The power (128 bhp with ethanol and 116 with petrol) is very good for the category and the maximum torque (200 Nm) appears at low revs.
Picking up speed, thanks to the agility at low revs (from 2,000 rpm), is one of the highest points of the car, which features an excellent 6-speed automatic gearbox, with manual gearboxes via the throttle and lever.
In the automatic versions, the rear seat has two air conditioning outlets and USB Type-C ports to improve life on board for all passengers. The digital automatic climate control is very efficient.
The multifunction steering wheel with great grip, the low driving position and the digital panel are positive points of the Virtus Highline. The instrument cluster has a 10.25” screen and a good on-board computer. The 10.1” multimedia is excellent and connects to VW Play, an interesting platform.

The gigantic 521-litre trunk is worthy of the best sedans. Likewise, the safety of the car deserves praise. It has several interesting elements, such as the post-collision brake, which prevents the car from losing control after a collision. Tested with 6 airbags, got 5 stars from Latin NCAP.
The 205/50 R17 tires have good width and height for a compromise between stability and comfort. The rear suspension is torsion bar, but the car cornering is very good.
what can improve
A family sedan that costs more than R $ 130,000 should be equipped with seat belts. It’s savings like this that lower the usability score of a car, in this case the Virtus Highline.

While the front design has improved a lot and the side is nice, the Virtus isn’t exactly glamorous when viewed fully from the rear. Okay, we know this is the toughest part of a sedan, but from certain angles it just doesn’t look like the big car it should be.
The total absence of buttons on the multimedia and (above all) on the air conditioning was the worst idea of this Virtus. Incidentally, it is already an outdated concept, as several luxury cars have at least the basic buttons again.

verdict
The New Virtus Highline is worth buying, even if it was not a Jetta GLI, because it is one of the best sedans in its class. It’s a reliable, practical, roomy car that can do up to 15 km/l of petrol on the road.
However, if you don’t insist on a more sophisticated look, 17-inch wheels, front parking sensor, fatigue indicator, automatic braking when maneuvering, electrically foldable mirrors, photochromatic mirror, rain sensor, twilight sensor, climate-controlled glove box and internal HD in multimedia, the New Virtus Comfortline is practically the same car and costs R$ 10,890 less.
