We forgive Sylvester Stallone everything. Whether he’s playing in L’Embrouille est dans le sac or Stop, or My Mother’s Going to Film, comedies on the edge of Nanare, or whether he’s singing country too crudely. Yes, yes, he sings country! If you can’t see what we’re talking about, then you don’t know Rhinestone, the little alien in the bodybuilding star’s filmography.
In US theaters in 1984, between the first two parts of the Rambo saga, Rhinestone tells how a country music star (Dolly Parton, a true legend of the genre) tries to discipline an eccentric New York cab driver (Sly) in order to win a bet.
In Rhinestone , Stallone, who is currently narrating a rivalry with Schwarzenegger on Netflix and who is about to direct a sequel to one of his biggest films, sings so badly, we agree on that point. But it is his role that wants it, and therefore makes it possible to watch this incredible film with fun and tenderness, unlike the Razzie Academy, which awarded him the worst actor prize for his performance.
It should be noted that Slime preferred to star in Rhinestone and belt out some country tunes on screen rather than star in a comedy adventure chasing the green diamond. The losing choice, Rhinestone, came after an already chaotic production, especially Stallone’s desire to rewrite the film, which was a bitter box office failure.
Away from the world of Rhinestone Country, Sylvester will play the big gun again in Expendables 4, in theaters October 11. The muscular domain, which the actor, without a doubt, possesses perfectly.
