Jodi looks like a teenager like everyone else. But when a truck falling off an overpass hits a young boy, suspicions arise. Why is he still alive? How would he survive without any scratches?
Very quickly, the hero’s abilities should become more and more visible. He can turn water into wine, save a deaf man and seem to hear voices. What if Jody, who knows nothing about his father’s identity, was actually God’s child?
The Chosen One, a new six-episode series available on Netflix, is an adaptation of the comic book series created by Mark Miller (Kick Cass, Kingsman) and Peter Gross. The action, which takes place in the United States in the original story, is here transferred to Mexico and begins with a very violent scene. An amazing starting point and one that piques our curiosity knowing that the series is still intended for an adult audience.
This is true for the rest of the story, where The Chosen One presents itself as a funny mix of Stand by Me – for a tight-knit group of teenagers – and Stranger Things – unlimited powers not unlike Eleven’s. The series offers an interesting artistic bias with a 4:3 image format and very naturalistic photography that falls on the side of Terrence Malick – the comparison stops there.
If the chosen one is interesting fiction with its mystique and original premise, it remains terribly predictable. Where the series will take us and what secret it will reveal to us about its main character, we find out from the first episode. Height: It is necessary to wait until the end of the last episode, so that the intrigue finally decides to spit the piece. An ending that will announce, even more, season 2. I hope it’s a bit more of a surprise.
The Chosen One is available on Netflix.
