Actor Oscar Isaac explained his hesitation in appearing in “Moon Knight” and why he feared the series would ruin his career.
Isaac spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his initial concerns about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Moon Knight and said what he believed was the biggest risk to his career.
“I felt this way about ‘Moon Knight’,” Isaac said. “Like, ‘Dude, I’m going to go hard on this thing.’ Just the level of embarrassment it would be, once you put on a cape, do you know what I mean? And you’re in front of it. It’s like, ‘Gee, I’m really doing this.’
“Moon Knight” arrived on Disney + on March 30 and follows the adventures of the character played by Isaac, and is based on the Marvel Comics comic. In addition to Oscar Isaac, who plays a character with multiple personalities Marc Spector / Steven Grant / Jake Lockley, the series stars Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow and May Calamawy as Layla El-Faouly / Scarlet Scarab.
Also present in the interview is Michael Keaton, who will return to play Batman in theaters, and commented on the commitment necessary for a role coming from the comics. On this, Isaac continued: “The question was, like, ‘Can I do both?’ You can smuggle the thing that matters to me, why I like to do it, so every morning when the alarm goes off, I can be excited about going to work and not just like ‘I have to deal with this to get it. That check or something else ‘And it seemed like this was an opportunity, perhaps because of the television landscape, where there seems to be a lot more risk, to do this bizarre thing that happened in the case of a superhero genre movie. “
Additionally, Isaac commented on the risks industry insiders associate with signing a Marvel Studios project, such as the almost immediate turnaround time required by the studio. But even with the tight deadline, he says he was reluctant to accept. “Yeah, it was very high, like, ‘Is this the dumbest thing? Is that smart? ‘ It was a mental torment just to make the decision, “he said.
Despite hesitation, Isaac eventually accepted the role in “Moon Knight” and a return after the show’s first season is entirely possible, either in a sequel or elsewhere in the MCU.
“Moon Knight” is available on Disney +.
