Christian Gray interpreter, Jamie Dornan had to talk to friends and family before accepting the role in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’
Jamie Dornan stated that, even before accepting the role in Fifty Shades of Gray (2015), already knew that critics would ridicule the film trilogy. Despite having earned around US$ 1.3 billion around the world, the valuation of the Rotten Tomatoes was 15% (via Variety).
In an interview with the podcast Happy Sad Confused — before the actors strike in Hollywood —, dornan said he did not accept the role right away: “It had to be talked about. I sought advice from friends, family and various actors”. It is worth remembering, however, that Christian Gray would be played by Charlie Hunnam – in Sons of Anarchy—, who gave up and made way for Jamie.
“When I couldn’t [o papel]I felt a little relief because I knew he [Charlie Hunnam] it would kick ass,” explained the actor. “Maybe he felt the same way. Suddenly, there I was, but with much less time to make a decision. I joined the cast five weeks before we started shooting. I knew I came with all this baggage… that the reality was that [o filme] it would make a lot of money and the fans would love it, while the critics would despise it. That’s how it was with the books and that’s what we were doing. We were true to the books.”
dornan starred Fifty Shades of grey beside dakota johnson and praised her colleague’s stance: “Films that are made for the fans, that are loved by the fans, can be a success. I am grateful for dakota and I were able to do work that people still love.”
In the same interview, the Agent Stone (2023) and even revealed that he stayed away from superhero movies, except for The Man of Steel (2013). He lost the role to Henry Cavill.
