Kandahar on Prime Video: Why does this war movie ring so true?

Available on Prime Video from August 4, Kandahar follows Tom Harris, an undercover CIA agent who infiltrates the Middle East. An intelligence leak reveals his identity while he is on a mission. Trapped in the heart of hostile territory, Harris and his Afghan translator, Cahill, must fight their way through the desert to Kandahar, their evacuation point, and escape the elite special forces that are chasing them.

If Kandahar was considered too classic by the subscribers, some still emphasized the quality of the scenario, which was quite realistic. It should be said that the feature film, directed by the invested Gerard Butler, was written in 2016 by a certain Mitchell LaFortune, a former intelligence agent who was inspired by his own experience to save his script.

The latter was deployed several times in Afghanistan, near the border with Iran. Moreover, the idea of ​​creating Kandahar came from his missions. Mitchell LaFortune places his action simultaneously, in 2013, and in the middle of the Snowden case, which will have a special resonance in the film.

“The character of Tom Harris is an amalgamation of several people I met during my 10 years in the military and the Defense Intelligence Agency.”he explains in this article. “But Moe’s character does exist. He is an artist I worked with from 2011-2013. He is the person I wanted to write the best characters for. Because his sacrifice – for our safety – inspired me so much“.

To make Kandahar even more authentic, the teams set up cameras in Jeddah and Al Ullah in Saudi Arabia, where the actors filmed for several months. The film is directed by Rick Roman Waugh (Fall of the President, Greenland), a thriller and action regular. Watch on Prime Video.
