The lost sister of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles returned as a member of the main group, which has not happened since the 90s series.
Since the creators set out to expand the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe in recent years, the team has received great stories, born of that procedural uniformity involving the same heroes and villains as always. In addition to the timeline-related miniseries of The Last Roninin which the original group died and made way for a new generation, the main continuity also received new members.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #142 spoiler alert!
Even before Jennika appeared in IDW Publishing’s new continuity and claimed her place on the team as the fifth Ninja Turtles, Venus was first introduced in the 90’s hit animation, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. Unfortunately, the reaction of fans to the novelty at the time was rather disappointing, which forced the management to cut the heroine from the group.
But times are different, and with the mythology of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles acquiring so many new elements, nothing more fitting than bringing Venus back. In Teenage Ninja Turtles #142we see Donatello break out of his obsessive bubble and reach into his mind via the astral plane to contact Venus, asking for help in finding a mutant ally who has been kidnapped by the evil Dr. Jasper Barlow.

“Extend your mind through the astral plane?” you might ask. Yes, some will remember that Venus, already in her first appearances in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons of the 90s, had a mystical and spiritual connection with Donatello, i.e. the main continuity now considers what happened in that animation as canon as well .
Having Venus as another turtle alongside Jennika to represent the female core is a great way to broaden the scope of the stories, create new team dynamics, and of course bring in more diversity.
