SPOILER ALERT! This article reviews the main plot elements of the film. If you haven’t seen it yet and don’t want to be spoiled, don’t read it.
After its release on Netflix on August 11, the thriller Agent Stone has climbed to the top of Netflix’s best movies in France. And if this success is confirmed at the international level, it is a good continuation. Especially since the movie clearly leaves the door open for Gal Gadot to return as Rachel Stone.
The spy thriller begins at the beginning of its plot when Rachel Stone is forced to blow her cover to save her MI6 colleagues during a surprise attack in Lisbon. He’s been working undercover at MI6 for a powerful secret organization known as The Charter, but that’s not Rachel’s biggest problem.
His colleague Parker (Jamie Dornan) is also undercover. He’s not what he seems, and Rachel has a heartbreaking experience of this when she sees him kill the rest of the team right in front of her. He is revealed to be an agent who has turned against his country and made it his mission to destroy the Charter and steal its most powerful asset: its heart, an ultra-powerful artificial intelligence.
Of course, Rachel isn’t going to make it easy for the treacherous Parker, but if you’re lost in Agent Stone’s many turns, let’s get back to explaining everything at the end of the movie.
Definition of Agent Stone’s ending
As we learn fairly quickly, Parker is working with Keya Dhawan (Alia Bhatt), a brilliant young hacker who wants to expose the abuse of power and silence crimes around the world.
However, when her partner starts killing people in cold blood, Keia has second thoughts. But it will still take some time for him to really switch sides.
After successfully stealing The Heart from its secret, ultra-secure location, and with Rachel Stone following them every step of the way, Parker and Keya head to a lab in Iceland with servers powerful enough to plug in The Heart and begin using it. as possible.
Parker’s first targets are the bosses of The Charter, who call themselves kings. (And each agent of the organization is named after a playing card, Rachel Stone is the Nine of Hearts). He immediately kills ex-CIA boss Nancy Morrison, Queen of Diamonds, played by Glenn Close. Next up is former Chinese state security chief Jiang Hsu, King of Clubs, played by BD Wong.
As for Rachel’s team, led by the Queen of Hearts (played by Sophie Okonedo) and aided by the Canave of Hearts (Matthias Schwiegefer), who is also an AI operator, they end up in a secure bunker outside of London. Only one hour of oxygen.
Fortunately for them, Keia changes her mind after witnessing all these cold-blooded murders that Parker orders. He then decides to disable The Heart and informs Rachel of its location so she can stop Parker. This is a new face-to-face for two former colleagues.
They bump into each other during an argument. “The heart has the power to change things, but Charter uses it to keep things as they are.“He shoots.”You don’t want to change anything. You just want to be responsible.– Rachel will answer. He then confronts him with his own contradictions, highlighting the fact that he is brutalizing his own teams by referring to Keiya.
This is where the two women join forces to put an end to Parker once and for all. With that out of the way, it’s time to save The Charter’s team, who have run out of oxygen for good. Mission complete !
How the ending leaves the door open for a sequel
Four weeks after neutralizing the global threat, Rachel visits Keya in prison and tells her that she is still working for The Charter. But on two conditions. First, that human instincts always precede machine predictions.
Second, he no longer has a team and wants to be surrounded by people. “which will change the world for good“. He gives the card to Keya, who turns out to be the Joker, and therefore offers her a place on his new team. Keya accepts the spot.
Then the film has another jump in time. We see Rachel in the field on a mission. We don’t know anything about this new case, but it looks like Keia, Page of Hearts, and Rachel are all three operational and official teams at The Charter.
So life goes on. And global threats will certainly continue to loom on the horizon, but this team seems to have everything under control. Will they be the main characters in a potential sequel? We’ll have to wait to find out for sure, even if we do know that Netflix has considered the film a franchise from the start.
