‘Som da Liberdade’: Controversial Film Wins Dubbed Trailer; I wait!

Paris Filmes has released the dubbed trailer for “Som da Liberdade”. The film, whose box office in the United States – where it debuted on July 4 – is close to 200 million dollars (about R$ 986 million), is expected to hit Brazilian theaters on September 21.

Based on a true story, the film follows former US government special agent Tim Ballard (Jim Caviezel), who embarks on a mission to rescue trafficked children. In Colombia, Ballard decides to leave his position in government to pursue the gang.

Directed by Alejandro Monteverde, the film also stars Mira Sorvino (American Crime Story), Bill Camp (The Queen’s Gambit) and Kurt Fuller (Psych).

‘Som da Liberdade’ controversy

At first, the production may seem like a “normal” action-investigative film. But it is full of controversies, which have arisen over the past five years.

For starters, the film is currently accused of serving as a propaganda vehicle for QAnon, a movement that believes liberal Satanists are controlling the US government and sex traffickers working for Democrats are kidnapping children around the world.

But how did it get to this point? It was like this:

The other part of the “Som da Liberdade” controversy concerns its box office in the United States. It’s just that Angel Studios’ distribution had “pay for next,” where individuals or institutions can purchase tickets for donation.

This has led to allegations that the thousands of tickets bought by churches and businesses have inflated the box office, which has overtaken the opening of such blockbusters as “Indiana Jones and the Relic of Destiny” and “Mission: Impossible – Reckoning Part One”.

I wouldn’t have thought that in a million years [o filme] it would be so politicized. I saw a report [sobre tráfico de crianças] in the media and I always thought it would be a film that would bring us all together.
