Some films revive interest in an entire genre. Gladiator is one of those movies. The 2000 action masterpiece turned Russell Crowe into a mega star, became a box office hit and breathed new life into the sandal movie. Now the great epic is available for streaming Netflix.

Gladiator revolves around the Roman officer Maximus (Crowe), who is betrayed by the nobleman Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and brutally kidnapped from his family. A slave trader trains him as a gladiator. And so he gets the tools of his bloody revenge.
For many fans, Gladiator is the gold standard of historical spectacle: opulent sets, an epic story, and hard-hitting sword-fighting action. However, it came as a surprise when Gladiator 2 was announced more than 20 years after the first film. Ridley Scott (Alien) returns to the director’s chair. Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal and an actress from the previous film are also involved.
Later, Lucius (played by Aftersun’s Paul Mescal), grandson of Commodus, grew up. Rome is still far from a safe place. Two emperors rule the mighty empire, but intrigue creates new power relationships. Gladiator 2 is slated for theatrical release…
