Dune 2: this dream that Denis Villeneuve shares with all fans of the saga

On August 24, Warner Bros. Dune 2 has been postponed, overwhelming fans who have been eagerly waiting for this blockbuster! Originally scheduled for November 1, the sequel was pushed back to March 13, 2024, due to the strike that has paralyzed Hollywood for now.

To keep the public waiting, Empire magazine devoted its last issue to this second part of Dune. The American media spoke to the director Denis Villeneuve, who revealed some details about this long-awaited work.

Dune 2 is a war movie.

“The first Dune was more contemplative. It focused on a young man discovering the world. Dune 2 is a war film. At the heart of the story is the love story between Paul and Chan. How does Paul earn her trust, how does he win her back. Open his heart to her and how they find a way to free the world of Chan from the Harkonnens. It’s a much more emotional film.”Canadian director told.

Indeed, if the two trailers already revealed are to be believed, Dune 2 promises to be much more epic and action-packed. Additionally, Denis Villeneuve also dropped a bit of fluff about a potential Dune 3.

To succeed in filming a trilogy would be a dream come true.

“It would really be a dream to succeed in making a trilogy. Dune’s Messiah was written after a reaction from readers who thought that Paul Atreides was a hero he didn’t want. My adaptation of Dune is closer to that idea. This caveat. After that, the books are more esoteric. It’s happening. I’ll just say that a few words have already been written.”He noted in the columns of the empire.

The first part of this adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel was released on September 15, 2021. It grossed $400 million at the global box office on a $165 million budget. In France, The Adventures of Paul Atreides attracted 3.1 million viewers.

After the events of the first opus, the hero is greeted by the Fremen, a rebellious tribe hiding in the dry desert of Arakis. The sequel explores the mythical journey of Paul Atreides as he reunites with Chan and the Fremen while plotting revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.

Faced with a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known world, he tries to avoid a terrifying future that only he can predict. On the casting side, we find Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling and Dave Bautista.

They are joined by Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, described in the novel as having a “perfect figure”, “grey-green eyes” and “light golden hair”, and Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan Corino . . Austin Butler, on the other hand, plays the excellent villain Fade Rauta.

See you on March 13, 2024 at the cinema to discover the rest of the rebellion on the planet Arakis.
