Galaxy Z Flip 5 survives intense endurance tests

Even with the larger external screen and the changes made to the hinge, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 managed to pass the resistance tests of the JerryRigEverything channel

Ultimate compact foldable SAMSUNGor Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 was subjected to the YouTuber’s intense endurance tests Zack Nelsonfrom the channel JerryRig Everything. Despite introducing a larger external screen and a significant number of changes to the hinge — now “teardrop-shaped”, which would put less stress on the flexible panel — the device has proven to have a very robust construction, remaining firm even when folded in the direction opposite, contrary.

zack begins its assessment by checking the hardness of the displays, which is not surprising: we have Gorilla Glass Victus 2 in the external area, and Ultrathin Glass (UTG) of the South Korean giant in the internal region. In practice this means that scratches shouldn’t easily form when the phone is closed, but care should still be taken with the foldable display, which is softer and more susceptible to damage due to the layers of plastic used on the surface.

At this point, both the revised hinge and the aluminum construction and the presence of plastic bumpers around the panel, which help absorb heavy impacts, should work together to ensure greater resistance. Even too much heat shouldn’t be a problem, given the results of the curious fire test. Even though the external screen showed a patch of dead pixels, the pre-installed film prevented damage to the internal AMOLED display.

One of the most interesting features of the foldable family from Samsung is the presence of IPX8 certification, which guarantees that the devices can be immersed in fresh water for up to 30 minutes without fail. The problem is in the X of the code, which indicates that there is no protection against dust and other debris. That said, following his brother Galaxy Z Fold 5the Z Flip 5 managed to tackle a handful of dirt without presenting major problems — the secret would be in the use of small brusheswhich prevent particles from reaching the circuits.

The most delicate step in Zack’s evaluation was the unnatural fold, which requires a structure that is rigid enough to prevent the cell phone from breaking. Recent crashes like from Google Pixel Fold AND from the Razr 40 Ultraand the already mentioned modifications to the hinge have aroused concern, but the small foldable device has remained firm, completing the battery of tests practically intact, reinforcing the evolution in terms of durability that this type of device has been showing in the last two years — at least between the models launched by Samsung.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 was unveiled on August 26th, refining the formula of its predecessors with important improvements. In addition to providing a significantly more powerful and efficient processor, or Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxythe smartphone got a reworked hinge to virtually eliminate the gap that forms when closed, along with an external screen almost twice as large, now capable of using almost any application.

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that the device surprises with its high resistance: in another durability test, compact folding has reached the 400,000-fold barriersurpassing its rival by a huge margin Razr40Ultra from the Motorola, capable of withstanding a modest 126,000 bends. The novelty is on sale worldwide, including in Brazil, where it can be found for values starting at R$ 7,999.
