From classic rock to metal, Margot Robbie’s favorite bands

The actress has already revealed in several interviews that she has a huge appreciation for heavy music, although she also listens to lighter sounds

Versatility is a hallmark of Margot Robbie. As an actress, she manages to do well in films ranging from blockbusters like Barbie It is The Suicide Squad (2021, please) to those with more challenging performance, such as the wolf of Wall Street It is Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. And as a music fan, your playlist can be defined as somewhat eclectic.

In several interviews, the artist exposed some of her musical preferences. A Rolling Stone USA, before the premiere of Barbie, she surprised by saying not only that she loved Beach Boys, as he also despised the Beatles for an unusual reason.

“I watched a documentary about how the Beach Boys would have been even more popular if the Beatles hadn’t come along and stolen the spotlight. Out of loyalty to the Beach Boys, I decided not to listen to the Beatles.”

At a young age, he developed a passion for heavier sounding bands. At the beginning of the year, in a statement to the The Graham Norton Show, turned out to be a big fan of Slipknot and even said he went through an “emo” phase.

“I just listened to heavy metal, dyed my hair black and just cut it with a razor blade. So yeah, kind of goth.”

Asked by another guest on the show, the actress Kate Blanchett, if she really liked heavy metal – “does anyone like this?” -, she answered:

“I really enjoyed and still enjoy it. I remember going to a concert by Slipknot [enquanto participava do elenco de Neighbours, novela australiana] and, at the time, it was the most I’ve ever been recognized. I’ve never had more people come up to me than at a concert by Slipknot.”

Digging deep into heavy sound

Already in 2019, Margot Robbie revealed that the first record she bought was Sing the Sorrow, of AFI, punk rock/post-hardcore band that isn’t exactly among the most famous in its segment. In other words: she went deep into her taste for heavy sound.

Another group of your appreciation is the Bullet for My Valentine. In an interview with BBC Radio 1 (via Metal Hammer), host Nick Grimshaw connected Robbie to a heartbeat monitor and exposed her to some curious situations. One involved a video in which Matt Tuck, lead singer and guitarist of the band, dedicated the song “Tears Don’t Fall” to her during a concert in 2018. Her little heart was pounding, of course.

Margot Robbie and Slipknot

2023 was not the first occasion on which Margot Robbie spoke publicly about Slipknot. The masked band was the subject of her statement in a 2016 interview with The Tonight Show. Specifically, he stated:

“Even if you don’t like metal, you need to go to a Slipknot concert.”

And in pop?

This does not mean, however, that Margot Robbie listen only to heavy music. A Barbie of fiction lives up to her character by revealing herself to be a fan of Spice Girls, one of the greatest girl bands of all time. The actress even went so far as to say that Emma Bunton, Mel B, Mel C, Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham inspired her vision of what feminism is.

“The Spice Girls changed everything and dictated my version of second wave feminism. It’s like, ‘Oh my God, they wear little sparkly dresses and push-up bras, and then they have a girl gang? This is what I want to be!’”
