“I wasn’t ready”: why this actor refused to play in Titanic

Today, we know him mostly thanks to his role as Carrie Mathison, a CIA agent who suffers from bipolar disorder and never backs down from anything, in season 8 of Homeland. But early in her career, when she wasn’t even in her thirties, Claire Danes answered in Leonardo DiCaprio’s revised adaptation of William Shakespeare’s famous play, Romeo + Juliet.

Baz Luhrmann’s film immediately pushed the young actress to the fore, and this rise in Hollywood could take on a whole new dimension, because, as she said a few years later, Claire Danes was seriously considered for the role of Rose. James Cameron’s Titanic.

After Romeo + Juliet, she could find DiCaprio in a project that would undoubtedly radically change her career. However, the actor chose not to sit on the liner because he knew very well that this film would ruin everything for him:

“I remember when Leo decided to make this movie. He really struggled. It was a deep choice and the question was, ‘Do I want to fly into the stratosphere now?’ I think he decided yes and I didn’t.”he said into the microphone The Howard Stern Showin 2015.

What would Claire Danes’ career have been like if she had played Rose instead of Kate Winslet in Titanic? It is impossible to know. Anyway, her choice allowed her to star in the excellent Homeland series, which is available on Disney+ if you want to catch up.
