IFA 2023: Lenovo Legion Go arrives with enviable specifications

Lenovo’s Legion Go laptop features a giant 8.8-inch screen, detachable controllers, and rugged AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme

OR Lenovo Legion Go it was finally announced this Friday (1). After a flurry of speculation and leaks, the Chinese manufacturer’s portable PC player was confirmed during IFA 2023 in Berlin (Germany).

The revelation confirmed practically all the rumors that have come out in recent days. The Lenovo Legion Go will feature up to 16GB of high-performance LPDDR5X-7500 RAM, options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB of 2242 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD storage, and a 16:10 8-inch screen. inches. 8-inch QHD display that delivers up to 500 nits of brightness, 97% color fidelity, and up to 144Hz refresh rate.

The highlight of the Lenovo Legion Go, however, is the Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, the most powerful APU in the manufacturer’s Phoenix line, with 8 Zen 4 cores and 16 threads running at up to 5.1 GHz and 12 RDNA 3 CUs, also by ROG Ally. The reason is that, since the first rumors emerged, many have indicated the component as a potential problem for the laptop. After all, with a CPU this powerful, you’d expect runtime to be sacrificed for firepower.

A Lenovo he emphasized that this will not be the case. That’s because the Legion Go will have intelligent power management technology combined with a battery capacity of 49.2Wh, higher than its two main competitors, the Steam bridge and the Asus ROG Ally, which have only 40Wh. Despite this, the company has avoided revealing the autonomy of the device and has limited itself to commenting that it is compatible with Super Rapid Charge, which allows it to charge 70% of the battery in just half an hour.

Another feature that is supposed to mitigate the Legion Go’s power consumption is the proprietary Coldfront cooling technology. In practice, this means that Lenovo’s portable gaming PC uses an LCD polymer fan to keep everything running at a maximum of 25W of TGP and less than 25dB of noise.

Switch-type removable controls

In addition to all the processing power, the Lenovo Legion Go comes with a difference that should appeal to anyone already familiar with another laptop on the market: the switch. Is that the gamer laptop comes with detachable controls that are very reminiscent of the console’s nintendo.

Dubbed the Legion TrueStrike, they feature minimal deadzones to maximize accuracy and response time during gameplay. Furthermore, by highlighting the controllers on the screen, Legion Go activates the FPS mode, which transforms the right joystick into a sort of mouse to increase aiming precision in titles of the genre.

Additionally, the newest gaming laptop on the market comes with a built-in trackpad, an angled mouse wheel and 10 fully programmable buttons.

Lenovo Legion Go and the competition

On paper the Legion Go is a more balanced and attractive product than its two rivals: the Steam bridge and the Asus Rog Ally. This is because Lenovo equipment comes with a larger screen and better refresh rate than the competition.

The battery is also superior compared to other options. Depending on the efficiency of the intelligent energy management, it is possible that the Legion Go’s extra 10Wh will give you more than 10 hours of battery life.

Control is another big plus and should make gaming sessions much more comfortable for players. With the ability to detach both joysticks, the user is free to find the best position for their hands, as there is no need to be “bound” to the Legion Go’s frame.

Furthermore, it should be noted that the device is much larger than the ASUS ROG Ally and slightly wider and taller than the Steam Deck. When it comes to weight, then, it is a much heavier product than the competition. So here’s the warning for those looking for a truly portable PC so as not to be taken by surprise.
