From the very first installment of the Harry Potter franchise, released in 2001, to the latest installment in the wizarding saga, young actress Bonnie Wright has seen her character evolve as the films progress.
Ron’s shy little sister who still lived with her parents in the first film, Ginny quickly rose through the ranks at Hogwarts, gradually rising as the opposition against Voldemort formed around Harry, eventually becoming the latter’s lover and then wife.
More than a decade after his big-screen adventures ended, his interpreter spoke on the podcast microphone Inside You by Michael Rosenbaum Recalling his memories of the filming of the film, it evokes experiences that he was sometimes able to confirm “boring”Especially because of his screen time:
“I definitely think there was some anxiety about playing and doing the best I could with my character. (…)“he explained.
“I wondered if I would be able to honor this character that people loved. So it was always difficult, especially when, inevitably, a lot of scenes related to all the characters were cut between the books and the movies. We didn’t have. So much show in the movie”.
(Robert Pattinson, Cedric Diggory’s interpreter in the saga’s fourth opus, also expressed his difficulties in portraying the character.)
“Sometimes it was a little frustrating because certain aspects of the character didn’t come out because we didn’t have the scenes to do it. I think it made me a little nervous or just frustrated.”Bonnie Wright continues, specifying that possible changes to the scripts were minimal.
The actor finally explains that to do more justice to Jeanne in John Rowling’s work, much longer films would have been needed:
“When fans tell me how disappointed they are, they say, ‘We know it’s not about you. We just wanted to see more of you.” And the same could be said for all the characters if these movies were 5 hours long.”
Since the end of the Harry Potter saga, Bonnie Wright has become very rare on screen, except for two roles in 2013, in the drama Before I Go to Sleep and the sci-fi film La Relève.
