Racionais MCs brave heavy rain at historic show at The Town

Racionais MCs have scheduled a historic show at The Town. Brazil’s most important rap group took the stage on Saturday night (29/9) accompanied by the Orquestra Sinfônica de Heliópolis, the first symphony of the favela, creating expectations for a fusion of rap and strings. However, the rain in São Paulo interrupted the presentation, preventing the full partnership due to adverse conditions and technical problems.

Expectation vs reality

Even before the rain started, the anticipation for the meeting of Mano Brown’s blunt verses, Ice Blue and Edi Rock with violins and cellos was overcome by the beats of DJ KL Jay, whose DJ ended up dominating the presentation, overshadowing the instrumentalists. But the unforeseen weather made the situation worse. When heavy rain flooded the stage, many musicians of the Orchestra were forced to leave the place to preserve their instruments.

As seasoned professionals, the rappers faced the situation without hesitation, taking the opportunity to nail the storm-protected VIPs, while parading their great classics, taken from the emblematic album “Raio X Brasil” in front of the public in the rain. (2013), struggling with microphone failures – completely soaked – in the iconic “Mano na Porta do Bar”, up to the more recent “Cores e Valores” of 2014.

The political demonstration was also present, with the names of the assassinated quilombola leaders being projected.

With nowhere to retreat, the crowd of fans stayed until “Quanto Vale o Show?”, the last song of the presentation, helping the band sing a capella, amidst spectacular thunder and lightning, “Jesus Chorou”.

In the end it was truly a historic sight.
