One Piece, an anime inspired by the manga of the same name, has long-standing fans and is still successful today, despite being released more than 20 years ago. Until then, the fruit ingested by Luffy was presumably the Gomu Gomu no Mi, of the Paramecia type, which transformed the pirate’s body into rubber. However, in the Wano Country story arc, it is revealed that the fruit he ate is actually the Hito Hito no Mi, which is a mythical Zoa-type fruit. This fruit gives Luffy the form of Nika, the sun god and liberation warrior, and grants him the ability to turn anything into rubber, combining the powers of Gear 3 and Gear 4.

He reached Gear 5 in a battle against Kaido, in the final stretch of the Wano Country arc, where his heart stopped, but soon started beating again, this time to the beat of the Drums of Deliverance. In order for Luffy to reach Gear 5 again, he has to force his heartbeat to beat at the correct speed.
In which chapter does Luffy appear wearing the Gear 5?
The first time this power was activated was in chapter 1044 of the manga released in March 2022, and in the movie One Piece: Red in November 2022. In the anime, it was only in episode 1071, released in August 2023, who managed to to activate Gear 5, right at the end of the Wano Country arc, during the battle with Kaido.
