Fernando Meirelles, a Brazilian director best known for his work on “City of God,” will direct the new Apple TV + crime series “Sugar”. According to information from colliderin addition to Meirelles, the streaming has chosen as the protagonist none other than Colin Farrell.
Created by Mark Protosevich, “Sugar” will also have Simon Kinberg of “X-Men” and “Deadpool” and Mark Protosevich of “I Am Legend” as executive producers. Still without many details, the series hasn’t announced any other cast names or release window.
Meirelles is a Brazilian producer and screenwriter who became famous after making, in 2002, “Cidade de Deus”, a film for which he was nominated for an Oscar as best director and won the Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix in the categories of Best Film and Best Movie director . The director was also nominated for a Golden Globe in 2005 for “The Faithful Gardener”.
Farrell is best known for playing Lord Percival in “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” (2016), as well as his portrayal in HBO Max’s “True Detective.” Varietythis could also be the series that motivated the Apple platform to produce a show about detectives and even to choose the same actor in the project.
