Director responsible for the film adaptation of The Lord of the Rings surprised with enthusiastic praise for the film that is now showing
Saudosistas on duty will always complain about current horror movies. However, it is a fact that the genre has gone through an interesting moment in recent years, with some works that are achieving good results at the box office and critical acceptance.
the legendary filmmaker peter jackson seems to have offered more evidence that the present time has also offered horror films that are worth mentioning. In an official statement published by the distributor Ahi Films (via NME), the director of titles such as the franchise Lord of the Rings and the 2005 remake of King Kong extolled the new work of horror Talk to me, launched in Brazil as Talk to me.
“It’s relentlessly creepy and disturbing, in the best possible way. ‘Talk to Me’ isn’t just good – it’s really good. The best, most intense horror movie I’ve enjoyed in years.”
On the one hand, this is a promotional statement, published by the film’s distributor. On the other hand, however, it is important to note that jackson wouldn’t involve his name in a statement about a feature he really didn’t like. It might be worth giving a vote of confidence to the nomination.
As noted by the website Igor Miranda, peter jackson is not entirely alien to the world of horror. He already directed some films of the genre in the beginning of his career, although always mixing it with comedy. Animal Hunger, Braindead, Total Nausea and The Spirits are some of the examples.
Jordan Peele Recognition
Another compliment came from Jordan Peele. The filmmaker of works such as Run! e Nós commented that he felt inspired by the work of the directors Danny and Michael Philippo in Talk to me.
The speech was revealed by Michael, in an interview with IGN. At the time, he declared himself a big fan of Jordan and detailed how his reaction was when he received the compliment.
“That was truly the craziest thing ever. I shivered as I held the phone. It really made me very emotional.”
About Talk to Me
On display in Brazilian cinemas, Talk to me tells the story of a group of friends who discover how to summon spirits using an “embalmed hand” technique. Trying to talk to her dead mother, Mia (played by Sophie Wilde) joins his friends for another summoning session, but one of them goes too far and ends up unleashing macabre supernatural creatures.
The film premiered at the international festival sundance and has been accumulating positive reviews ever since. The direction is from Danny and Michael Phillippou, from the YouTube channel RackaRacka, while production is in charge of A24, the company responsible for hits of the genre like X – The Mark of Death and the winner of Oscar Everything Everywhere At Once.
With a budget of US$ 4.5 million, Talk to me has already grossed approximately $43 million at the box office – and that number is set to rise with its worldwide release. The cast has Zoe Terakes (Hayley), Sophie Wilde (Mia), Miranda Otto (Sue), Jett Gazley (Alex Varoli) Chris Alosio (Joss), Otis Dhanji (Daniel), Joe Bird (Riley), Alexandra Jensen (Jade), among others.
