Paramount+ has released the trailer for the series “Men of the Law: Bass Reeves,” about a legendary character from the Old West.
The show stars David Oyelowo (“Selma”) as Reeves, the first black U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi River. According to legend, he was the greatest frontier hero in American history, working as a federal peace officer in Indian Territory and capturing more than 3,000 of the region’s most dangerous criminals without ever being injured.
The racial issue, which at the time differentiated Reeves from the other delegates, is not explored much in the preview, but there are scenes of confrontation with the Confederate soldiers, which should place racism at the center of the narrative.
Excellent cast
The cast also includes veterans Donald Sutherland (“Hunger Games”) and Dennis Quaid (“Four Lives of a Dog”), as well as Lauren E. Banks (“City on a Hill”), Forrest Goodluck (“Cherry, Innocence Lost” ), Barry Pepper (“Ruthless Conspiracy”) and Demi Singleton (“King Richard: Making Champions”).
The series was created by Chad Feehan (writer of “Ray Donovan”) and produced by Taylor Sheridan (creator of “Yellowstone”).
The premiere is scheduled for November 5th.
