Dark wood in decoration is a bet for 2024

The trend was the strong point of the latest edition of CASACOR SP

For a long time, the predominance of different light wood patterns has prevailed, especially in contemporary houses and apartments in Brazil. But the latest edition of CASACOR SP” – the sector’s fair which unveils the biggest names in national architecture and design – held from June to August at the Conjunto Nacional, strongly highlighted the return of dark wood in floors, coverings, in the furniture and decorations in various designer environments.

Among the highlights, the Loft (in)Terno, designed by architect Ticiane Lima, winner of the award for the best environment of the fair, revealed Pau Ferro wood in all the designer spaces, present in the furniture and partition walls. “I explored the Pau Ferro model, which has an organic design with a lot of personality, in all the furniture and panels of the project. Together with Evviva we tried to highlight Brazilianness combined with refinement through wood”, explains the architect.

At the helm of Neobambu, Francine Ferrari, who has been offering bamboo flooring and coverings for 14 years, reveals a new consumption perspective on darkened wood. “For a long time our customers have been asking above all for lighter models, largely due to trends arising from minimalism and Scandinavian design, which favor lighter and “cleaner” environments. What has caught our attention is that in recent months we have been receiving many requests and projects with more obscure choices, which is why our portfolio today includes other wood species”, says the entrepreneur.

According to architects and partners of Estudio Tupi, Aldo Urbinati and Andrea Vosgueritchian, many people prefer a more natural and darker shade of wood, however they are afraid of leaving a heavy and charged atmosphere in the environment. To avoid this effect, Urbinati and Andrea reveal three tips that guarantee lightness and harmony in the environment:

  • In open spaces, the use of dark wood is a great option to give continuity, for example, to an installed panel.
  • Those who want to give a contemporary look to the project can use and abuse contrast, since with dark wood it is possible to establish a contrast in strategic points to create elegance.
  • And finally, be careful about using excess wood, which can weigh down the decoration. It is important to add colors and elements to the environment, such as different cushions, carpets, curtains and paintings.
